The SARASOTA • MANATEE CHAPTER (formerly the Gulf Shores Chapter) was formed in 1985 by three legal administrators with the foresight of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) could offer to the legal community of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Since then, the chapter has grown in size and accomplishments. The first salary and benefits survey in 1988 has become a bi-annual project. In 1992 the Chapter hosted the Regional Conference. The first Technology seminar produced and sponsored in conjunction with the Sarasota County Bar Association won the chapter a National Award for Bar Relations.

The SARASOTA • MANATEE CHAPTER serves the legal community in a variety of ways. It hosts educational seminars for attorneys and administrators, some of which provide CLE credits. Since the chapter’s inception, its members have been active with the Florida Council, and in attendance at ALA Chapter Leadership, Regional, and National Conferences.

Membership

The Chapter’s main emphasis is to develop and promote programs of special interest to legal administrators. Monthly luncheon programs and seminars presented throughout the year address topics on financial management, human resources, information systems and technology, marketing and leadership development. Our goal is to promote the exchange of ideas regarding administration and management problems unique to our legal organizations. Our membership is derived from law firms and government agencies that practice in a variety of areas of the law. We also host an annual event which provides an opportunity to meet vendors, learn about the latest technology, network, exchange business cards.
